MARCH 2016

It was time to get going after three weeks off the bicycle. We left the city of Chihuahua and headed south on highway 45 through the Chihuahua desert, the days on the bike were hard with temperatures reaching 30°C and long distances between resupplies. Drinking 8 liters of water (coca cola) a day. By night, the winds and temperatures dropped, opening up the sky to reveal a blanket of stars. The desert, for those twilight hours were peaceful.

We rolled into the desert output of Ceballos where we hunkered down for two days in a cheap motel as a dust storm raged outside. Once the dust had settled, we pointed the tandem east to the little visited area of Mexico, the North East Highlands. Tourism in this area has dropped significantly due to cartel violence but we saw nothing, only smiles and wonderful food and great little towns nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental.

Total so far: 2174 miles Mexico – Chihuahua, Durango, Coahuila
