PHOTO ESSAYWILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN
I thought I’d show you around the birthplace of the ‘new age hipster’, and my new home; Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
From these photographs you might think that I live in a bit of a slum, but I really don’t, it’s an extremely vibrant and colourful place to live. Anyone from New York will tell you that Williamsburg is
pretentious a mecca for the fashionable twenty somethings of New York, and by that I mean if you’re wearing the latest fashion when leaving your apartment, I guaranty by the time you walk across the street you’ll be out of fashion. In my case, I’ve never been very fashionable so I kind of blend into the shadows.
Williamsburg is changing at such a rapid pace, new high risers seem to go up every month, Curious tourists ransack the neighborhood at weekends, and local businesses which have been there for twenty plus years are pushed out because out of control rent hikes.
I photographed the parts of Williamsburg that in time will eventually disappear under the weight of a new penthouse apartment, coffee shop, or Kombucha bar.
